Call them things, items or kit; call a session an opening. Set it once in Settings and the public site, the desk and the emails follow.

The camping kit is a tent, two mats and a stove. Lend it as one and every part is checked out and back in.

Care and repair
Send a thing for repair or quarantine from the desk. It stays off the shelf until someone signs it back in.
